My Background

Education

I graduated from York St John University with a BA Hons in Primary Education with a focus upon additonal learning needs, in 2011.  Since graduating, I have gained a certificate in Child and Adolescent Counselling and I am currently working towards a Masters in Special and Additional Learning Needs.

Employment

I am qualified as a teacher, and my advice is given in relation to my teaching experience.  I worked as a classrom teacher for seven years in a range of specialist provisions.  I then moved to London to work as an Autism Advisor for three years. In both roles, I have worked closely with families and professionals including CAMH’s, SALT’s, Physio’s, OT’s, EP’s and Social workers.  The experience I have gained through doing so has been invaluable and is reflected in my practise.  Sensory and communication needs are always a huge part of my considerations and I continue to encourage multi-disciplinary teamwork at all given opportunities.

Continuous Professional Development

I am committed to ensuring I share the best practice.  This may be through attending conferences such as The National Autistic Society Annual Conference or training sessions with professionals such as Dr Peter Vermeulen.  It also included gaining certified qualifications such as:

  • Lego Therapy Accreditation (July 2022)

  • SMiLE Therapy Accreditation (March 2022)

  • ‘Autism Education Trust’ Train the Trainer (June 2019)

  • Schools Good Autism Practise, Early Years Making Sensory of Autism, Schools Making Sense of Autism, Progression Framework Training, Understanding Good Autism Practice (Autism Education Trust) (2020)

  • AAC, Core Words and Pathways Power Academy (Tobii Dynavox) (November 2015)

Why Did You Set Up Flourish?

I transitioned into independent work after recognising the increased opportunity to support families and schools more efficiently using a remote working model during lockdown.  Since lock down, I have been able to support families, schools and businesses in the UK, France and Spain!

What Is Your Approach?

I pride myself upon my passion and ability to support schools, families and businesses in a holistic, positive manner.  Doing so, enables our people with additional needs to flourish in the world around them.

Tell Us a Fun Fact About Yourself.

Above you see a picture of myself and my 'Pets As Therapy' Dog, Buddy.  In previous roles, Buddy would come to school with me to support my students.

also have a horse, Bam, who used to work at a Riding for the Disabled Centre.
